Context
The assignment came from a client who manufactures the most popular children’s multivitamins on the European market. The product is strongly linked to the brand, which communicates with both children and parents through sophisticated branding, including gifts and packaging.
The campaign was to include a snack bag that would be included with the vitamin packaging. The bag had to be practical and certified for contact with food.
Project
The selection process took the form of an agency competition. The client approached several suppliers with a conceptual brief and expected them to demonstrate their own creativity and ability to develop the design into a fully-fledged product.
Key parameters:
- attractive design for children
- exactly specified dimensions
- production in tens of thousands of pieces
- use of certified materials for direct contact with food
- Variability for different language versions and markets (CZ/SK)
Assignment
The customer wanted practical snack packaging, not a toy. The materials had to be non-toxic, safe, certified, and tested—all in accordance with European standards.
Detailed requirements included:
- bag design (number of zippers, pockets, inner thermal layer)
- graphic customization option
- readiness for high-volume production
- full technical documentation and certification
Our tasks were:
- take on a conceptual assignment and develop a functional, certified product
- create a template in the client’s brand colors, including a sample with the logo and graphics
- quickly deliver samples for quality control – we sample frequently and have the capacity to respond flexibly
Realization
The first step was to create a sample prototype that reflected the required dimensions, material, handles, and graphics. The client’s original graphics had some flaws—for example, the Martian character had no legs. Working together, we prepared a revised design and three rounds of samples that addressed the following issues:
- addition of graphics
- sewn-on hands of the character
- change in the angle of Marťánek’s head
- design variants: one or two zippers, added pocket, possibility of sealing
At the same time, we provided:
- material certified for direct contact with food
- Complete testing at ITC Zlín, in two phases:
- for the final sample
- on a sample from a serial batch
- for the final sample
- outputs comply with the strictest European standards
We also adapted the design for color variations – the client could immediately see what the final bag would look like in their brand colors and styles. We delivered a design tailored directly to the product – as if it were already in its final form on the shelf.
Despite frequent modifications, we delivered the project on the originally set deadline, without any deviations.
Result
We have delivered a certified, fully functional snack bag called “Marťa box,” which meets the requirements of European markets.
The product is safe, sturdy, easy to use, and has a distinctive design.
